How To Select The Best Acne Product

Posted by admin on December 19, 2009 under Clear Acne | Be the First to Comment

Acne affects close to 80% of the American population at some point or another. Because of the wide range of acne products available in the market, most acne sufferers have problems deciding which acne product to use for treatment. In fact, prior to consulting a dermatologist, most would first use over the counter drugs and medications.
Dermatologists often advise the use of such acne products (example Neutragena, Eucerin, Aquanil, Cetaphil and Extra Gentle Cleanser) if your case is severe. They will however, usually discourage the use of rough cleansers and scrubs. Also, vigorous rubbing of the skin is best avoided as these may create further irritation and may eventually lead to more acne.
To be able to select the best suitable acne product for yourself, you must learn how to read labels. That is, you have to acquire an understanding of the ingredients of the acne medications. Also, you have to identify which ingredients and which acne products work best for your type of skin.
Benzoyl peroxide, a common ingredient contained in most acne medications are effective in reducing the acne infecting bacteria termed as the “Propionibacterium acnes”. These are known to clog the pores while creating acne lesions. Moderate cases of acne are usually treated with such over the counter medications. Some of these medications also remove dead skin cells, thus preventing the appearance of comedones. They have been highly regarded among experts for decades now and is still rising in popularity as a safe way of clearing acne form the skin. However, the only serious side effect from using benzoyl peroxide is abnormal dry skin.
Another acne product that is noted to obstruct the quick shedding of the skin and the clogging of the skin pores is salicylic acid. This does not reduce the presence of the natural oil , but it prevents the formation of lesions in the hair follicles.
It is advisable that you continue using these two acne products even after the severity of the skin disease disappears to minimize the likelihood of future acne breakouts. However, over time, it is a good idea to cut down the usage of these products once you have no more acne.
The effective ways to determine which product, from the multitude of acne products available, is to distinguish the result of the active ingredients. Take note of what they do to your skin. It is recommended to avoid alcohol and oil-base products as these may either dry your skin extremely or add to the problem of excess oil. As you experiment with acne products, take note which leaves a soft feel and which results to itchiness and irritation.
Make it a habit to apply only small amounts at the beginning of each acne treatment. Also, pay close attention to the acne products for which your skin reacts constructively.
There is really no way round selecting the best acne product other than understanding what the ingredients in each product are for and through experimenting which works best for your skin condition. In time, after due diligence and careful analysis, you will be able to determine the best acne product for yourself.

Posted by admin on December 14, 2009 under Home Remedies For Acne | Be the First to Comment

Acne home remedies are arguably the best ways to get rid of pimples and blackheads and cure our acne condition. Many people have tried using acne medications and creams that can be bought over the counter or prescribed by the local pharmacy or clinic, but often find themselves stuck in a repeat scenario of acne recurrence after a short while. This should not be a surprise to us since most over-the-counter acne creams or medications are not curative like acne home remedies, but palliative in nature meaning they focus on treating the symptoms more than the skin condition.

Here are some acne home remedies that have been tested over time and proven to work well against persistent acne problems. Diet and topical medication play key roles in curing acne.

1. Go on a full fruit fast for at least a week and consume only fresh fruits like grapefruit, pineapples, pears, apples, mango, apricot, olive, papaya, etc. Stick to non-citrus fruits. You can choose to incorporate this one week fruit fast into your diet and repeat this monthly. It would cleanse your body system and improve your overall health on top of your acne problems.

2. Green vegetables are exceptionally helpful. Vegetables such as celery, seaweeds, broccoli and green pepper are good at detoxifying our bodies, and can improve our skin condition dramatically. Eat at least 5 servings of vegetables daily. Watercress helps to prevent mineral deficiencies in our body and skin and is a rich source of vitamins.

3. Avoid dairy products such as ice cream, margarine, milk and cheese because of its fat content. The same goes for junk food and carbonated drinks.

4. If you have to eat meat, cold water ocean fish such as salmon, cod or sardines, and poultry can be consumed. But the preparation method is important. They must not be fried.

5. Wash the affected acne spots with warm water twice and mild calendula or castile soup. Alternate the washing with cold applications.

6. Applying ice directly on the acne lesions would reduce the swelling. It is one of the oldest practices among acne home remedies.

7. Applying topical sulphur ointment (3 to 10%) is an effective acne home remedy in suppressing acne.

8. Tea tree oil can be applied directly to acne lesions because of its antibiotic nature.

9. Having Epsom salt baths twice in a week is yet another effective acne home remedy. Prepare a bath of about 50 litres of warm water and 1 kg of Epsom salts. Dip into the bath and wash thoroughly for about half an hour.

10. Applying toothpaste on your acne lesion would reduce the swelling while you sleep. This is one of the most simple and popular acne home remedies.

Acne Home Remedies

Posted by admin on December 9, 2009 under Home Remedies For Acne | Be the First to Comment

Acne home remedies are true blue killers of acne. The concept of acne home remedies is based on adopting a curative approach towards treating acne. This means that acne home remedies are intended to cure acne rather than just treating the symptoms itself like what many of the over-the-counter or prescription medications do. Home remedies for acne are prepared using natural remedies and solutions so that the healing takes place from within our body system to effect complete healing. Discover more about acne causes and some simple acne home remedies you can start using today to help fight acne.

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition where sebaceous glands are most active and numerous. Acne can develop on the face, neck, back, arms and chest and affects 8 out of 10 teenagers to some degree. There are many reasons that have been linked to the occurrences of acne outbreaks. Common reasons include:

1. Puberty

Androgenic hormones eg testerones increase sebaceous gland activity, ie producing more sebum or oil resulting in blocked pores.

2. Diet

Excessive consumption of saturated fat, dairy products, protein, fried foods, carbonated drinks and lack of green vegetables in our diet can increase the risk of acne.

3. Nutritional Deficiencies

Nutritional deficiencies such as a lack in zinc and essential vitamins put one at higher risk of suffering from acne.

4. Poor Hygiene

Poor hygiene and unclean treatment of our skin can also lead to acne problems.

Acne home remedies seek to deal with some of the common causes of acne such as diet and nutritional deficiencies. The following are a few easy acne home remedies:

1. Non-Citrus All Fruit Acne Diet

By observing a non-citrus all-fruit diet for at least a week, it can cleanse our body of harmful toxins that could encourage the development of acne. Remember to consume only non-citrus fruits such as apricot, avocado, banana, cherry, damson, date, fig, grape, guava, kiwi fruit, mango, melon, nectarine, olive, papaya, passion fruit, peach, pear, pineapple, plum, pomegranate, quince, strawberry, watermelon and coconut.

2. Non-Saturated Fat Acne Diet

Remove saturated fats from your diet. Saturated fats are normally found in foods from animals such as cream, ice cream, whole milk, whole milk cheese, butter, lard and meats, and plant oils such as palm, coconut oils and cocoa butter. Diary products are one huge source of saturated fats and should be avoided at all costs. Try to include salads, cooked vegetables, seaweed, seeds and nuts, whole grains, beans and tofu in your meals.

3. Therapeutic Agents

Daily intake of therapeutic agents such as vitamins and zinc are effective against acne. Vitamin A and zinc help to regulate the sebaceous gland’s production of sebum, the root cause of acne. Other vitamins may have antibiotic properties to cure acne.

Is Aloe Vera An Effective Treatment For Acne?

Posted by admin on December 8, 2009 under Treatment For Acne | Be the First to Comment

The aloe vera ingredient is found in a number of cosmetic products and is used to treat a number of different conditions. It can be used to treat a number of different digestive problems and is also excellent for treating various skin conditions, but is it an effective treatment for acne?
Acne is a problem for millions of people all over the world, and particularly affects teenagers and young adults. It is a skin condition that can affect different parts of the body but is often most commonly found on the face and neck, causing unhappiness and embarrassment for the sufferer.
There are a number of things you can do to treat acne. Firstly you can ensure that you eat a healthy diet, which means that you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water. In addition, you should try and eat foods high in vitamin E because this vitamin is considered to be an excellent way of reducing acne scars and scratches. It’s also a good idea to eat foods containing anti-oxidants and Omega 3. All of these things will help your body remove toxins which can build up in your skin and worsen your acne.
Stress is a common factor that is believed to be linked to acne so reducing your stress levels will certainly help. One of the best ways to do this is through taking more physical exercise, even if it’s just increasing the amount of walking you do every day, for example.
Another way to treat acne is of course through using the natural healing power of aloe vera. This plant has been used to treat the skin for thousands of years and is considered by many to be an excellent way of treating acne.
Aloe vera is available in many forms including gels, creams, soaps, lotions, juices and pills. It can be applied to the skin directly or can be swallowed and put to work from inside the body through juices and pills (which is where it is most effective).
The great thing about aloe vera is that it has two excellent properties – it moisturises the skin and heals the skin from any cuts, scars or scratches so this combination means it can produce excellent results when used to treat acne.
The results will obviously differ depending on the product you use with some being more effective than others, but if you use a good quality aloe vera product on a daily basis, it’s possible to see a dramatic improvement in the appearance of your acne enabling you to live a more confident and happier life.

How To Cure Acne With Effective Home Remedies

Posted by admin on November 25, 2009 under Home Remedies For Acne | Be the First to Comment

If you are suffering with acne and are on a tight budget, or you are completely confused by all of the Over the Counter (OTC) acne remedies available and don’t know which one, if any, to use there are natural “home remedies” that can be used to treat and actually cure acne.

Home remedies are generally much less expensive that OTC products, and many of the ingredients are common household items.

Here is a List of Acne Home Remedies that You Can Use:

* Hydrogen Peroxide – with a cotton ball, dab some hydrogen peroxide on acne areas. Hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria and is also a drying agent.

* Salt Water – if you have really oily skin, use warm (not hot) salt water to wash your face. Salt water cleans the skin, getting rid of the excess oil. Regular store bought salt can be used but natural sea salt is even better.

* Baking Soda - a good skin wash that really cleans clogged pores. Take a tablespoon of baking soda and mix with a small amount of warm water until it forms a paste. Apply gently to the face with a circular motion, being careful not to get it into your eyes, and leave it on for about 30 seconds. Rinse with warm water. Do this twice a day.

* Witch Hazel – try dabbing witch hazel on problem acne areas with a cotton ball 2 to 3 times a day. Witch hazel comes from a flowering plant, and has been used for centuries as a natural astringent.

* Aloe Vera – known for its healing properties, aloe vera has also been used for centuries to heal skin problems and burns. Many people swear by aloe vera cream or gel to cure acne.

* Lemon Juice – obviously lemon juice is very acidic and is used by many to exfoliate the skin. Take some fresh squeezed lemon juice and apply it to your face and/or other acne problem areas. It’s safe to use as an overnight facial mask – just remember to rinse it off with warm water in the morning…

* Tea Tree Oil – has been used for years as an antiseptic and anti-bacterial. Try dabbibg the oil on specific acne areas with a cotton ball. Tea tree oil is potent, so don’t use it over large areas of your face. You can buy it at most any drugstore.

* Oatmeal Mask - a great home remedy for acne that leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth. You can either cook the oatmeal, then put it in the refrigerator until cool, or you can mix the uncooked oatmeal with water (purified water is best for your skin) until it forms a paste. Either way, apply it to your face and leave it on for about 30 minutes, then rinse off with warm water and pat your face dry. Use this mask twice a day.

* Vinegar – vinegar or apple cider vinegar is a natural bacteria killer and absorbs oil. Take a cotton ball and soak it in the vinegar (either kind of vinegar will do) diluted with water, and apply it to the acne areas.

Try some of these home remedies on your acne for a few weeks – some will work better for you than others, so experiment and find out which ones help to clear your acne.
